Why pay for sync services?
So - picked up my focus way back in December of 2011. Since then I have had at most 1 month of sync services available in the car. When I updated to MFT 3.5 I even made sure I did a master reset so there would be a chance it would reset. Since then I had 1 week of services before I was told my subscription wasn't active. First how do you keep the bloody thing from being wrong and second, without doing a master reset how do I get it back? I really don't want to screw up what little bit is working currently. The one. Week of service did not occur right after the master reset but about 1 week later. The website shows my account is active. Thoughts?

It's free for 3 years. Call them and they will get it working.

The SMR website will say your account is active until the end of your 3 year period, but you need to "renew"(activate) it on the website each year before the anniversary date. If you've done that I'd contact them ASAP. As far as I've seen and experienced MFT has had no effect on the availability and connection to SYNC services, so I don't resets will help this issue. ALIME.

Ive been debating on paying for the service, but not sure if its worth it.
I was looking over the ford website yesterday (getting registered and what not) and saw where it said if you pay for the service there was something similar to navigation (my car has sync, but didnt come with nav). The way I understand it is it syncs to your phone and if you need directions it uses mapquest. Is that right? Is the service worth it? What do you use most out of the paid sync service? |

It isn't expensive, but still doesn't seem worth it to me. Navigation is the only feature of any value, but it takes time for them to download, if cell phone coverage is spotty you're out of luck and I've found the directions themselves to be less than reliable.

I dont use GPS very often, but I could see it being handy to find like the closest gas station, or a bite to eat. Something like that. Of course I could just do the same thing with my phone itself |

The SYNC nav is a bit kludgey as it uses your phone as a modem to download the directions (all at one time, then you get your phone back), but it works pretty darn well. I fall into the category of rarely needing directions and even more rarely not having Droid Razr Maxx for nav, so in a year and a half I've used it maybe 4 times. Would I pay to renew? Prolly not. Would I have bought MFT for nav? Definitely not.
