1st gear grind 5th gear squeal

Hi im somewhat new to the forums and have a general question. my downshift from second to first transition is fine, but it seems that if i'm in first anywhere above around 2500rpm it makes an odd grinding noise, and only if im not on the gas at all. It's not a loud I-missed-my-shift grind but a subtle sound a little like galling. Another problem is that in fifth gear without throttling it sounds fine, but as soon as i touch the throttle a squealing/humming sound starts. also not an extremely loud sound. Any suggestions to help me isolate this problem/problems?

Ok, 1st gear has a lock out at anything above I believe 25mph or 2k RPM. This keeps damage from occuring to the trans when going from a higher gear or RPM, because 1st is such a low gear. NEVER force it into first. Thats what it sounds like your issue with first is. The issue with 5th, might be the throw-out bearing.

Yeah that makes sense. No i never force it at all into first it still seemed a smooth transition just a little odd noise. and i was kind of thinking throw bearing but it only happens in 5th at any rpm as long as i just touch the throttle. Thanks for the solid info though.
