im reading some Ford literature here at the dealership and i found this:

"First off the line when Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant opens in 2010 will be the next-generation Ford Focus. Unlike the current model, which was designed specifically for the American market, this will be a truly global Focus. Design and engineering was led by Ford of Europe. The second vehicle will be significant in many respects. It will be Ford's first zero emissions battery-electric passenger car--not a hybrid, but a pre electric Focus that doesn't use a drop of gasoline or diesel. Projected range in between charges is up to 100 miles."
