I actually made a separate thread about it, but hell, I need the info so let me post it here too:
What sucks about McNews Automotive and FSwerks... is that they are awesome BUT they are both about 1,500mi away from Houston. Is there any good shop in Texas, or at least somewhat close, where they know they way around Focus? I know a good shop in Houston, they are expensive, professional and honest, but they are general mechanics and won't do any custom work. I'm looking for a place that would help me go over and diagnose my SVT engine, tune it, and maybe even do some custom work on it. I also need to find a good TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST who can work on our rare SVT Getrag and could maybe even install LSD in it. |

What exactly are you talking about doing to your motor? For a tune Tom or FSwerks will do for your tuning needs. Tom can data log your car a few times and send you new tunes. Ask Travis about it he's on his 6th tune and it's awesome (according to him). Any transmission shop can install the LSD, heck there is even a how to on Youtube for it as well. I would have done one myself had it not been so damn expensive just to get the LSD. The Getrag can not be rebuilt or anything like that though.

Well, don't take it as arguing in some parts, but let me go at it:
Have someone inspect motor and tell my why the low end is so much weaker than before timing belt change. It's not throwing any code. Quote:

And I want my transmission to be replaced just right the first time. So that's why I don't want to do it myself. Quote:
aaand... must be lucky enough to get used tranny that doesn't have same part broken as in your tranny - in my case second gear synchronizer. cause the fun part is, if you open tranny case to check it, you loose the so called 30 day warranty and salvage yard won't take it back even if it was broken in the first place. And if you don't open to check if it's ok, then you risk wasting all the time and money and ending where you started. I really just want my baby back on the road :( with as few problems as possible on the way. |

Done that a couple times Daniel, let me know when you plan on doing it, and if you need an extra set of hands.

If your low end is that much weaker then perhaps the valves did hit and are slightly bent. You would need to do a compression check to be sure. You don't need to dyno tune unless you want some numbers. He will come to Houston and dyno tune it if you really want but you need to pay for that. He can easily do a great tune by data logging, there are countless folks on here with F/I who have done it. As for installing it, most install their own and he tunes it. Same with FSwerks though Tom and them both have shops that will install it for extra money. As for Transmission shops you need to find a different one. Any shop should be able to install a LSD and any saying they won't touch a used transmission is just ridiculous sounding IMO. Taking a gamble on a used trans is just that a gamble it is after all a used trans. Doesn't mean they are all bad or that's what brought the donor car down. Getrag's aren't rebuildable as far as I know and what I've read over the years on here so a used one is your only option. I have a used trans in Ole' Yeller' from back in the day when I blew my diff. In hind sight I should have just bought a aftermarket diff and went with that and rebuilt the MTX-75 but the used trans was the cheaper option for me.

They rent compression testers out you can use. But be aware that the SVT compression numbers can seem low due to the VCT compared to a normal zetec.
