Buying a new car while In

Definitely keep what you have. first thought is, you have no clue where your even going to be stationed yet. If not stateside, the car would sit for awhile until you get your driving licence and such for that country.
And never ever buy from the shysters around a base, I've seen too many younger guys get sucked in way over their heads with way to big of payments and too high of insurance.
best bet as someone said, wait till your settled and if you have your heart set then go on leave and trade yours in locally for what you want. your far less likely to get screwed by a hometown dealer.
But being an e3 at the bottom, keep what you have and bank the money you save toward a large downpayment later on. don't jump in with bigger dreams than your pockets allow, thats a good way to get yourself put out on the street without an honorable discharge.

Not to beat a dead horse, but back when I was an E3 I drove a paid-for '91 CRX SI with liability insurance. I saw a lot of my battle buddies get sucked into newer cars with mandatory full coverage... nevertheless they had to eat all their meals at the DFAC and still barely had enough $ to put gas in it (and gas was only $.83/gallon). My $.02

And one other quick note... don't get into the partying thing either. quick way to be broke all the time too, and get your butt in trouble. Save your pennies to do some travelling, I finally figured that out after about 6 years while I was in europe. lots of things to see besides the inside of a bar :)

I wish I would have traveled more while in Europe then I did. I did go to Switzerland and Austria (was really in to snow skiing). Just wish I would have gone to more places. Oh well next tour.

yep, my last about year and a half I started to travel instead of party. Went to france which was fun but not my favorite. spain on the other hand... watch the hell out, that was the funnest vacation I ever had and saw a hell of alot. went to a little place called llorret de mar north of barcelona on the med.
went to several other countries as well and started hitting tracks to watch races while in germany.hockenheimring and nurbergring mainly, but also went to mainz and hanau alot for the hdra drags :) (hdra was hanau drag racing association, they used the military airstrips).
Now ya got me remembering shit...lol
Used to buy weekend train passes and hop trains just to see where we ended up.
