2012 Focus Engine Problem
Hello everyone,
So, I got a nice surprise this morning when trying to drive my 2012 Titanium Focus. Car started up, but when i would try to get up to speed while driving, it kept grabbing/kicking back on me every 10 or so seconds, and made it very difficult to drive. Anyhow the engine light was on, so obviously something appears to be up. Is there anyway for me to obtain the engine light/service code on this car without having to go to an auto parts store? If so, how do you do it? I'm fairly new with this car, and it only has around 1500 miles on it. Thanks to anyone who can help! |

As an update....i went out to start the car again and it started fine and seemed to drive well....no engine light came on either...odd. I guess for now I'm ok but we'll see in the next few days. Kinda weird how this all went down. Thanks everyone!

Get it chercked anyways, there SHOULD be a "stored code" to say what happened, so it can be fixed as needs be....
Luck! |

On some cars you can use the "blink code" to determine the engine code if you don't have a scan tool. I have no idea if this will work on a car this new. But it's worth a try.
Also, don't know if Ford charges or not, but I would hope that you are under a warranty of some type. If you are, make them fix it, if you aren't, take it to Advance and let them scan it for free. And yes, there should be a stored or intermittent code left in your OBD. I hope this all works out for you. Considering it didn't go back off again when you started up, I wonder if you possibly got a "random cylinder misfire within first 1000 rpms" code. |

Yeah, it was odd....it almost makes me think I was just imagining things this morning (I don't think I've gone insane....yet, haha!). I drove it again this evening and once again did not have any issues. And the engine service light never came on during the drive. I guess I'll see how it drives and if the light comes on again or if it seems like it's driving weird or there are any issues, I'll take it to the dealer. Thanks everyone, and keep responding if you have any further suggestions or think I should handle the situation differently!
Oh and yes, the car is under warranty. |

It will not work. That was how you checked OBD1 cars, and we've been OBD2 since sometime around 96 or so.
