How about piston to head contact results in broken connecting rod. = BAD

They actualy make a compund called Plasti-guage. To measure clearances and prevent the dead part.

Who gets to clean the dyno room when you "kill" it.

So pretty much you want to find the compression limit of the fuel?
Because that's really all you'll be finding, well that and inherent flaws in the head/chamber/piston design (actual limit vs expected limit).
And if more fuel can suppress pre-ignition, how much more and how much does fuel economy suffer . . .

I get what your doing I think. Just be sure to do the math before hand so you know what could/should be changed in the engine to reach the expected point. If it surpasses the expected point, why.

Oh, and Plasti-gauge in a combustion chamber will tell you nothing. It's meant for bearing clearances and really nothing more.

It can be used to check piston to head and valve to piston clearance, When things get really close.

that would still be called claying the engine, not plastigage. Two different compounds

1) "How to Build Horsepower" by David Vizard. Old school, but the premise of hp increases through flow dynamics/timing, etc.., etc... all there.

2) "High Performance Focus Builders Handbook" by Richard Holdener. Tom hates, but he hasn't published a book for us yet. Many hate but will give you some general ideas of hp increases to the individual mods that you may want to do/FI/etc.../etc....

His testing is not thorrow and jumps all over the place but it does give some good baseline info.

It's worth the read. Try to buy it cheap.

^But this guy is using a 1.25L zetec. Totally different engine. The FFHB is for the 2.0 only.

. . . and if you didn't know David has his own web site now (very good one too). It's called Go Fast News. I'd urge anyone to jump on there are read --> http://www.gofastnews.com/board/technical-articles/

he wont be able to use the same octane rated fuel every time either. The more the compression goes up the higher octane he will have to use so it burns slower to prevent pinging since it will want to diesel.

I say screw that test and just find out how much fuel you can dump into a cylinder to put it near hydro-lock at full throttle lol. Thats how the top-fuel dragsters are.
