Air-Water intercooler idea
hey, just had a thought, an A-A intercooler setup on an NA setup doesnt do anything, we know that but what about an A-W? say slap the PWR intercooler on there and hook up the barrell right before the maf? it will cool the intake temps, but by how much? enough to justify it? i'm not doing it, just spitballing an idea!

the idea could have merit but even if it did work the power gains would be minuscule at best. it would be like the difference between driving your car on the hottest summer day and driving it in the middle of winter. however IMO if there is power to be had from it then go for it. every little bit counts on a N/A build.

1/8th mile track i consistently get differences of .2-.3 seconds between 90 degree days and 40 degree days. on a 1/8th that is alot

ya, i would think it would do a bit of cooling, though i don't know how much it would do. though, i would think maybe 2-3 WHP. now, if you could use liquid nitrogen, then we'd be talking about a few more ponies!! lol, but it makes me wonder if there is a liquid that stays cool under atmospheric conditions that could work in place of water.

if you could be certain that the water containing part of the intercooler can hold a significant amount of psi then liquid nitrogen would be kickass. however if you could get your hands on PURE chlorine (which is a halogen gas) it would be much more manageable. the boiling point of liquid nitrogen is -320°F and it would boil immediately upon trying to put it in the intercooler and the actual ice build up from condensation probably wouldnt help if you were able to get enough in there and seal it up. the boiling point of chlorine is -29°F thus making it much more manageable albeit more difficult to get your hands on.

in theory it sounds great, in the real world it sucks.
Too little cooling, you're more than like just saving the weight by not putting it on. As for the Chlorine idea.... very stupid. One little leak and you'll end up with a cabin full of Hydrochloric gas (extremely acid) and it would more than likely kill you before you could get out of the car (melts your lungs)... we use chlorine at work.

ironically, i could get my hands on just about any chemical i wanted through school. and you can figure out ur hp/weight ratio to see if it actually adds benefit.

and for that matter, i wonder if anything could be used along these lines for a JRSC? place it right between the blower and the manifold.

what about straight Gasoline? it automatically has a lower temp normally. and fuel lines could be ran around your intake.the old schoolers used to take there fuel lines, and run them thru a coffe can in a coil typ method, and that would drop the fuel temp befor it enterd the intake if you used fuel for your idea, you technically would be killing 2 birds with one stone..lower fuel temp as well as cooling your intake temp....right?. theoretically..... jus throwin that out there...

i guess thats an idea too, but i don't know if i would feel comfortable w/ something like that. running fuel through other lines, well, if something goes wrong, BOOM, it would never be used in rally, the sanctioning bodies would never allow a combustable in something like that.
