215/40/17 Tire on SVT

Has anyone had any problems with this tire size on the SVT? Any problems with the ABS??? I know there will be a minor discrepancy with the speedo, but I'm not worried about that.

2nd, anyone know what it would cost to get the different tire size programmed into the computer at a dealer?

you will have no problems running that size tire, the difference in the size is a cm, so it will be about the size of a worn out 45 sidewall.

as far a reprograming the ecu, its such a small change it would be a waste of money in my opinion

Other question is will sportlines cause rubbing on an SVT?

you should be fine with that tire size....why do you want the smaller sidewall?? even a 215/45 should fine with sportlines

i have 205/40zr17 on my car. i do not like them and i would not recommend getting that size. they came on the car when i bought it. it is different from what you are looking at. just a warning.

yeah, the 205/40's suck.

i have 235/45/17 now. too big. lol. i rub on large bumps or inclines.

here is a little tire math for everyone. we will use 215/45/17 for this

215= width of tire in MM
45= 45% of the first number which gives your sidewall hight, also called aspect ratio
17= of course 17 inch rim

tire widths increase by 10mm for every size 205, 215, 225 and so on.

as a rule of thumb +10 -5. when you upsize a tire to the next size you subtract 5 from the aspect ratio. and when you downsize you add 5 to the aspect ratio.

if you do the math 45% of 215= 96.75mm
if you upsize to a 225/40 and use the +10 -5, 40% of 225=90mm
Now 17inch rim is 431.8mm tall. times your aspect ratio by 2, add 431.8 and you get how tall the tire is.

Now this IS NOT going to give you the same rolling diameter of the original size, however it will get you as close as possible when going for a wider, or skinner tire. But always do the math to get an exact answer to figure out the hight of the tire to see if it will fit.

Also there is no standard on where the width of the tire is measured, this will vary slightly from each tire company, this also holds true for treadwear ratings, every company has its own standards for this. All companies test their tires the same way for the most part, but each has a slightly different rating scale.

The new tires look much better. I think the drop from the sportlines will "make the car". I'll post a couple of pics of the new tires tomorrow.

The dunlops that were on the car when I bought it looked good, but when I bought the neogens they just looked too big so I decided to downsize.

Rubbing is primarily the result of offset, wheel width, and tire size, how much you drop, spring rates and shocks. It's a package. With the wrong offset a softer spring (the eibach sportlines start off soft with their progressive rates) will rub. Also if the springs are allowed to compress too rapidly (e.g. big hits) a larger (wider)tire may rub. Therfore, good shocks are absolutely necessary to control/dampen the spring. What offset wheel are you using?

as long as ur @ or below a 215/45/17, ur just fine.

I agree with mlb and dirtbrown. I had sportlines on mine with svt wheels and 215/45-17 tires for about a year with no problems. I even went with a 225/45-17 in the rear on the same wheels and didn't rub.

I have 215/40/17 right now and have had no problems so far. I would recommend watching out for the larger holes and bumps tho. I hit a big hole the other day and felt like my whole wheel fell off lol
