Ok, 1st gear has a lock out at anything above I believe 25mph or 2k RPM. This keeps damage from occuring to the trans when going from a higher gear or RPM, because 1st is such a low gear. NEVER force it into first. Thats what it sounds like your issue with first is. The issue with 5th, might be the throw-out bearing.
